Modular Treatment Concept (MZC)

Uncertain times call for a resilient and flexible positioning. Due to the significant uncertainties and rapid changes in the water landscape—such as unpredictable demand trends, climate change, emerging substances, and standards—drinking water company WML made the tactical decision in 2014 to flexibilize its production assets.

Background
Inspired by Verdigo of the water board company (now Waterschap Limburg), the radical choice was made to develop new production locations in a standardized, uniform and modular manner: the modular purification concept (MCC) was born.

As a leading process technology specialist, I defined the process technology foundations, designed the pilot and full-scale R&D trajectories, and made significant contributions to the various design phases within a close-knit project team.

In 2020, the first MZC-compliant water treatment plant in Breehei was commissioned. A successful three-year full-scale test phase confirmed the MZC standard for all WML new production sites.

In 2026, the next new treatment plant will be opened at the Grubbenvorst location, which will be built entirely in accordance with the MZC.
